The day I witnessed my horse self-medicate with an array of therapeutic essential oils which he ingested by licking the drops off the palm of my hand as offered, I knew down to the core of my soul, these particular essential oils would become a bigger part of my life. After testing positive from a fecal sample I had done on him, knowing he did present at the time a compromised immune system, I knew I needed to try something different. Seeking natural alternatives to parasite cleansing for my 9 year thoroughbred, without the use of standard chemical dewormers, when I witnessed my horse lap up minimally 25 -30 drops of tea tree essential oils from the hand of a hired practitioner I had brought in for consultation, I was totally convinced the horse knew best himself the best remedy for him. The next day I was advised to offer the tea tree oil again and if he refused it to offer spearmint essential oil. Certainly as suggested, my horse refused the tea tree oil but chose a different oil I selected at random; it was spearmint. Not only did he lap up as many drops of this as the tea tree, his eyes and physical softened into a very relaxed state. Spearmint essential oil was a favorite for the upcoming week daily then once again the refuse; his next choice was peppermint essential oil which he took only 5 drops of this day and he was done.
Having witnessed such an experience I knew this horse had become teacher for me and once again I was the student. Knowing I was truly onto something fascinating in my eyes, I continued to delve into to substitute for more natural alternatives from chemical deworming. Additionally I introduced diatamaceious earth into his diet. Over the course of the next several months my horse started to gain much needed weight with his coat glowing and energy boundless. I finally found the courage to do another fecal sample to test for parasites in his system and the findings were negative.
Hence today having the experience I have had with essential oils and my studies further leading me to become a certified aromatherapist, I find it to be so very true in this statement “for every illness or ailment known to man, our creator has a plant out here that will heal it".
